The story of the movie is not unique it echoes the string of infidelity film that topped the box office in the last months. The film looks like a local TV series, its visuals completely flat and lifeless.
Lovi Poe gives the best performance among the three lead stars, however she settles for stupid, making her dramatic scenes awkward and not convincing.
Jennylyn Mercado’s performance is balanced. She gets her character’s innocence, but fails to grasp the more complicated parts.
Paulo Avelino, being the male in this adultery formula has nothing much to do in this film. His character should have been more defined. It’s understandable that the lead cast aren’t able to do much with their characters.
What’s good about the The Bride and the Lover is how it uses camp elements to intensify the movie goer’s interest.
The movie tries to have it both ways, and it ends up with nothing. For me, It wasn’t a really good movie, but despite all these flaws, The Bride and the Lover is still an entertaining movie worth watching for me.
